Today we get a break from the cold. The forecast is calling for a breezy day with a high of 42 and a low of 39.

Here are the top five stories in Providence today:

1. With a year-end operating surplus for Fiscal Year 2021 of $3.68 million, Providence's net Rainy-Day Fund balance has increased to $28.8 million. According to a press release sent out Monday, this marks the sixth consecutive year the city has experienced a surplus under Mayor Elorza's leadership. (Press Release Desk)
2. Taking exception to an invitation to one part of actress and author Karyn Parsons’ (best known for her part as Hilary Banks in the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air), visit to Wheeler School last week, some critics are claiming that white kids are being left out. (WJAR)
3. Authorities have announced that Scott Maclean, who barricaded himself in his Providence home last week, died as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. (The Wilton Bulletin)
