Task Force Nabs Wanted Providence Man Charged With Firing Gun

The wanted man was arrested Friday, police said.

PROVIDENCE, RI — A Providence man wanted in connection with firing a gun during an altercation was captured Friday, police said.

Wilken Jean, 19, was "taken into custody without incident," according to the Rhode Island State Police.

The Rhode Island Violent Fugitive Task Force arrested Jean, police said, picking him up on a warrant charging him with felony assault with a dangerous weapon, using a firearm while committing a crime of violence, license or permit for carrying a pistol, firing in a compact area and simple assault.

Following his arrest, Jean, a resident of Vinton Street, was taken to the Providence Police Department, the state police said.

Yahoo! News reported that a man and woman confronted Wilken June 17 in the area of Updike and Peace streets, and Jean "pulled a gun."

"The woman grabbed a bat to defend herself, police said, and Jean allegedly hit her in the back of the head with the gun," Yahoo reported.

The man, who was the struck woman's boyfriend, claimed that Jean also struck him with the gun, WPRI reported.

Jean's "bail was set at $25,000, however, he was ordered held without bail due to a violation," WPRI said. The judge said at the time of his arrest, Jean was out on bail related to armed robbery and conspiracy charges from April."
