Here are the top three stories today in Providence:
- Providence police arrested a 17-year-old on weapons charges after fleeing the car during an attempted motor vehicle stop. Shortly after midnight on Monday morning, police ran the plates for a car with heavily tinted windows and no front license plate and discovered the rear license plate belonged to another car. The juvenile, who already had an outstanding warrant in Family Court for carrying a pistol without a license, dropped a gun before ultimately being apprehended by officers. (GoLocalProv)
- Firefighters responded to a fire at a school in Providence on Monday. According to William D'Abate School's Principal, Brent Kermen, crews were able to contain the flames to the school’s loading dock. At the time of the fire, only Kermen and two custodians were inside the building. (WLNE-TV (ABC6))
- Providence leaders are asking state lawmakers, once again, to approve hundreds of millions of dollars in borrowing to rescue the city’s ailing pension fund. The proposal calls for a $500 million pension obligation bond to help shore up the massively underfunded pension system. Both Mayor Jorge Elorza and City Council President John Igliozzi support the proposal. (WPRI.com)

Last week, we told you about our new favorite non-alcoholic go-to — the refreshingly bitter drinks from our partners at Betera. They’re chef-created from natural botanicals, lightly effervescent and worthy of life beyond “Dry January.” We mentioned that their Ginger-Orange was excellent; we’ve since tried Elderflower-Lime and loved it as well — light and floral with the perfect amount of zing. We're converts.
Enough of you took Betera up on their 15% discount on first orders for Patch Daily readers that they’ve extended the offer for another week. Use PATCH15 at checkout. Highly recommended — try Betera here.
