Scituate is a place like no other. And whether you grew up here, recently moved to the area or you’re just an occasional visitor, you know that Scituate has its own special traditions and history that make it so unique.
A few things to know:
- Scituate is home to the historic Scituate Reservoir, which supplies drinking water to 60 percent of Rhode Island's population. The reservoir is surrounded by beautiful hiking trails and is a popular spot for fishing, boating and picnicking.
- The Scituate Art Festival is one of the oldest and largest art festivals in the country, held annually on Columbus Day weekend. The festival features over 200 artists and crafters, live music and a variety of food vendors.
- Scituate is rich in history, with several sites listed on the National Register of Historic Places. These include the North Scituate Village Historic District, the Hope Mill and the Governor William Sprague Mansion.
- If you're a fan of outdoor recreation, Scituate is the perfect destination. The area is home to several parks, including the nearby George Washington Memorial Camping Area, which offers camping, hiking and fishing opportunities.
- Scituate is home to several beautiful historic churches, including the North Scituate Baptist Church, which dates back to the 19th century. The church features stunning architecture and beautiful stained-glass windows.
