'Broomball' Tourney To Sweep Into Smithfield This Summer

A Providence Bruins' fan club is bringing the sport to Smithfield for a special evening expected to bring in many from other towns and cities.

 

Members of the Providence Bruins Fan Club are expected to "sweep" away the competition at a regional tournament to be held in Smithfield this summer. 

The 30th anniversary "broomball" tournament of the American Hockey League's booster clubs is expected to bring many visitors to town, reports The Valley Breeze and Observer.

The tournament is expected to bring more than 300 people to Smithfield from July 19 to 21. 

The game, which is played using brooms, will take place at the Smithfield Municipal Ice Rink that weekend. The event is free and open to the public.
