New England Angus Association Field Day at Blackbird Farm

On Saturday, Oct. 20, from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., Blackbird Farm is the spot for this year’s New England Angus Association Field Day. Hosted by Ann Marie Bouthillette, the first female president of the New England Angus Association, the day will include a Beef Raffle, Farm Tour, Trade Show Displays, Angus Beef Cooking Demonstration, Cattle Grading by USDA Grader and Lunch. Beef producers and local food enthusiasts from the public are welcome.

Field Day guest speakers include Chef Benjamin Sukle, 2012 James Beard Foundation Rising Star Chef of the Year Award semifinalist. Sukle will discuss quality and sustainability in local Angus beef. Levi Geyer, Officer in Charge, USDA Market News, New Holland, Pennsylvania. Goyer will talk about conditioning animals for processing and do a live USDA grading demo. Lunch will be prepared at the farm by David Dadekian, private chef & cooking instructor and writer/photographer of Eat Drink RI. Susan Denice will be pairing wines from Jonathan Edwards Winery. Dadekian will also be demonstrating how to cook various cuts of Angus beef.

The New England Angus Association represents farmers who raise superior, highest quality beef. Members are breeding to make the next generation of New England Angus better than the previous one. Members also strive for high genetics for pasture-to-plate dining, whether it’s to a restaurant or institution or direct to the consumer.

Tickets for the public are $10 per person and includes lunch. Association members are free. This event is open to all visitors and begins at 10 a.m. Blackbird Farm is at 122 Limerock Road, Smithfield, Rhode Island 02917.
