Friday Five: Give Blood, Flyby, Internship, Board Post

Welcome to the start of a long weekend, Smithfield, and check out these things to know:

Give blood - In the wake of the blizzard and widespread power outages, the Rhode Island Blood Center lost nearly 600 blood donations, making it vital for donors, particularly platelet donors, to consider donating blood, helping to avoid a shortage. There'll be some local blood drives to give citizens a shot at helping out:

  • Friday, Feb. 15 Rhode Island Blood Center Bloodmobile will be at Dunkin' Donuts, 151 Douglas Pike, Smithfield, from 3 to 6 p.m. No appointment necessary.
  • Providence, 405 Promenade St., Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; and Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • Warwick, 615 Greenwich Ave.,  Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Woonsocket, 2168 Diamond Hill Road, Pavilion Plaza, Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Flyby - Good news: Near Earth Asteroid 2012 DA14 will not smack the Earth today. But it will come inside the Earth's ring of geosynchronous sattellites, NASA reports, making its closest approach at 17:26 UTC, or 2:26 noon Eastern Standard time. Its size is thought to be about 45 meters in diameter. It will appear slightly fainter than the naked eye can detect, so you'll have to take NASA's word for it. Unless their math is wrong.

CVS Internship - Want some experience working at a national pharmacy company learning about Advertising, Corporate Communications, Finance/Accounting, Human Resources, IT, Logistics/Distribution, Marketing, Merchandising or Real Estate and Operations? Then sign up for the CVS Caremark Internship.
