Happy President's Day, Smithfield - check out these things to know:

 

Presidents' Day: The holiday is officially known as Washington's Birthday, according to timeanddate.com. The birthday of George Washington, the first president of the US, was first celebrated as a holiday in the District of Columbia in 1880. It was made a federal holiday in 1885.

Town Hall is closed today, but Presidents Day is NOT a holiday for trash collection purposes – pickup is on a normal schedule.

Board post openings - The town is seeking members to serve on the Sewer Authority, Historic Preservation Commission, Affordable Housing Advisory Board, and Financial Review Commission. Interested parties should submit a letter of interest to the Town Manager’s Office, 64 Farnum Pike, Smithfield, RI 02917 along with an application form.  A letter of interest may contain your interest or experience in the field of each particular board or commission that you are applying for and, optionally, résumé information.
