Smithfield Editor Sets off to Next Challenge
Joe Hutnak, Local Editor of Smithfield Patch, is heading to Bristol-Warren Patch starting today.

It's only been three months since I launched Smithfield Patch, and it's been two years after Johnston Patch went live.
Having grown up in Johnston and Smithfield, I am proud that I accomplished the start of two Patch sites in these towns, where I first got my start in journalism with the old Observer.

It’s odd to think that when I started in journalism 20 years ago, you still had to plug a computer into a phone jack to go online — or that you could only use the computer [not a cell phone] to read email.
Today, I begin a new phase of my Patch career with a move to Bristol-Warren Patch, across Narragansett Bay and closer to my residence in East Providence.

To tell the truth, I'm more than a little bit sad to say 'farewell' to Smithfield Patch — especially after such a short time.
Still, as I move to Bristol-Warren Patch, I'm excited to have two new towns to cover — and discover.
Starting today, Smithfield Patch will be in the capable hands of Local Editor Rob Borkowski — send him your questions and news tips: robert@patch.com
As I said in my welcome video three short months ago, Smithfield Patch is your Patch. It's an online community gathering place where residents can share ideas, events, announcements, and photos and video of their favorite places and happenings in town.
Please be sure to help Smithfield Patch grow — and thanks for reading!
