Smithfield Police Arrest Woman for Trying to Steal School Supplies
Jennifer Bonsante, 33, faces misdemeanor larceny charges following her arrest at the school department on Oct. 3.

Smithfield Police officers responded to the school department administration building this afternoon and arrested a local woman on charges of trying to steal school supplies.
Jennifer Bonsante, 33, of 954 Greenville Ave., has been charged with one misdemeanor count of larceny, Capt. Michael Rheaume reported.

According to Rheaume, Bonsante went to the school department on Oct. 2 to register a child for preschool. While at the administration building, Bonsante "filled a trash barrel with $560 worth of school materials," Rheaume said.
When Bonsante went back to the school department to pick up the barrel on Wednesday, Rheaume added, school staffers alerted police.

School officials "had her on video surveillance" collecting the supplies, Rheaume said.
Officers presented Bonsante for arraignment at the police station just after 2 pm.
