Smithfield Police Called to Bryant for Student in Possession of Marijuana
The following information was provided by the Smithfield Police Department. Reports do not indicate convictions

On April 20, at about 12:36 a.m., Smithfield Police were called to Bryant University by the campus Department of Public Safety, which had discovered a student in possession of marijuana.
Bryant DPS officers told Smithfield Police an RN for one of the dorms noticed the odor of marijuana coming from one of the rooms. When DPS officers arrived at the room in question to speak with the students living there, one of the students leaving the room at the time was found to have a bag of marijuana on his person.

The marijuana was less than an ounce, making the possession a civil offense under the recent decriminalization legislation. The man was issued a $150 fine and the marijuana, 14.8 grams, was confiscated.
