Thursday Five: Blizzard Watch, Board Openings, Jobs, Facebook

Keep your batteries charged, your milk and bread stocked, and check out these things to know:

 

Blizzard Watch - The National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Watch, warning of a potential 1 to 2 feet of snow across much of the region.

Todd Manni of the Smithfield EMA warns northeasterly winds of 25 – 35 mph may gust as high as 50 mph, resulting in downed trees and power outages.

In the event of a power outage, Manni said the EMA would open a warming center/shelter should utility interuption last for a period of 3 or more hours. Either the Smithfield High School or the Smithfield Senior Center would be used, he said, depending on the number of persons requiring assistance. Board post openings - The town is seeking members to serve on the Sewer Authority, Historic Preservation Commission, Affordable Housing Advisory Board, and Financial Review Commission. Interested parties should submit a letter of interest to the Town Manager’s Office, 64 Farnum Pike, Smithfield, RI 02917 along with an application form.  A letter of interest may contain your interest or experience in the field of each particular board or commission that you are applying for and, optionally, résumé information.
