Good morning, Smithfield - check out these things to know:

 

Stories/crafts: On Friday, Feb. 15 come to Story Time with Audubon at Powder Mill Ledges Wildlife Refuge. Program times are 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Program includes the reading of Owl Moon by Jane Yolen with hands-on activities followed by a nature craft. Adults must accompany children. Program Fee: $5/member child, $6/non-member child. To register call 401-949-5454.

Give blood - In the wake of the blizzard and widespread power outages, the Rhode Island Blood Center lost nearly 600 blood donations, making it vital for donors, particularly platelet donors, to consider donating blood, helping to avoid a shortage. There'll be some local blood drives to give citizens a shot at helping out:

  • Friday, Feb. 15 Rhode Island Blood Center Bloodmobile will be at Dunkin' Donuts, 151 Douglas Pike, Smithfield, from 3 to 6 p.m. No appointment necessary.
  • Providence, 405 Promenade St., Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; and Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • Warwick, 615 Greenwich Ave.,  Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Additionally, the Warwick Center is open today (Feb. 11) from 1:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Woonsocket, 2168 Diamond Hill Road, Pavilion Plaza, Thursday, noon to 7 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Board post openings - The town is seeking members to serve on the Sewer Authority, Historic Preservation Commission, Affordable Housing Advisory Board, and Financial Review Commission. Interested parties should submit a letter of interest to the Town Manager’s Office, 64 Farnum Pike, Smithfield, RI 02917 along with an application form.  A letter of interest may contain your interest or experience in the field of each particular board or commission that you are applying for and, optionally, résumé information.

    Diner for lease - Been itching to start up a new restaurant? Neighborworks Blackstone River Valley is offering experienced restauranteurs a lease of the diner car once home to “Champs Diner,” on Park Avenue, now waiting a new tenant and customers at 719 Front St. The car was one of more than 600 diners produced by the Worcester Lunch Car and Carriage Manufacturing Company.
