UPDATE: West Main Road In Little Compton Reopens To Traffic After Crash
A pickup truck crashed into and severed utility pole on West Main Road in Little Compton around 3 p.m. on Tuesday, prompting police to close the road to all traffic for about an hour and 40 minutes.
Â
West Main Road in Little Compton reopened to traffic just after 4:30 p.m. after a crash severed a utility pole and blocked the roadway Tuesday afternoon.
The pole came down after the driver of a pickup truck lost control and struck the pole just before 3 p.m. The single-car crash caused the pole to snap in two places and partially obstruct the roadway. The driver was not seriously injured, but was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

"Part of the pole is in the roadway, so I'm hesitant to let anyone through," said Lt. Antone Marion, of the Little Compton Police Department. "It may be an inconvenience for some people, but safety comes first."
The roadway was shut down at the crash site about 100 yards south of Taylors Lane. According to Marion, the road needed to remain closed until National Grid crews could respond and secure the live wires.
