Tiverton Police Arrest Alleged Drunken Driver Carrying Gun

A Somerset man is facing a felony firearm charge after Tiverton Police arrested him on drunken-driving charges on Jan. 29.

Aron LePage, 36, of 124 Old Colony Way, Somerset, MA, allegedly rear-ended a Nissan Sedan that was stopped at the intersection of Crandall and Stafford roads. According to police reports, Lepage struck the Nissan with his Chevy Silverado, causing it to run off of the roadway. No one was injured in the crash.

As police spoke with LePage, officers noted signs of alcohol intoxication and frisked his person in preparation for a field sobriety test. Police found that LePage was carrying a concealed and loaded Glock 29 10 mm pistol. LePage failed the subsequent sobriety test.

"He informed officers [that he was carrying the gun] and had a valid license to carry a concealed weapon," said Capt. Patrick Jones of the Tiverton Police Department. "However, carrying while intoxicated is a felony." 

Although LePage refused to submit to a chemical test, he registered a reading of .197 on a preliminary breath test.

LePage was arraigned later that night by a Justice of the Peace and released on $1,000 personal recognizance.
