Today's Storm To Cause 'Treacherous Travel Conditions'

Winter is delivering another icy blast today as temperatures dip below 30 degrees and heavy snow, rain and sleet will fall, making for a slippery Tuesday morning commute, warns the National Weather Service.

This latest coastal storm will sweep across the region through 11 a.m. today delivery blasts of snow and rain that could cause accumulations of up to 1 inch per hour. About 3 - 5 inches are expected though final snowfall tallies will be determined by the timing of the transition from all snow to mixed precipitation, reads the the winter weather advisory that was issued for the region through 11 a.m. today.

"Expect a period of heavy snow through early Tuesday morning with snowfall rates up to an inch per hour," states the weather advisory. "This will result in treacherous travel conditions. There will likely be a high impact on the Tuesday morning commute across much a southern New England."

While accumulations are expected the be light, the freezing temperatures and mixed precipitation are expected to make driving difficult - especially during the morning.

"Motorists need to be especially careful on bridges and overpasses where slippery spots can easily develop," states the advisory.
