Winter Storm Nemo: Updates, Updates and More Updates

Friday, Feb. 8:

1 p.m. Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority (RITBA) monitoring winds speeds; could result in later closing of Mount Hope and Newport Pell bridges. 

12:30 — Governor declares State of Emergency ahead of storm, reports NBC 10 News.

12 p.m. — RIPTA bus service is suspended at noon. The DOT recommends all drivers to stay off roads this afternoon. 

10 a.m. - Snow is sticking!

4:30 a.m. - The National Weather Service (NWS) in Taunton, MA is predicting "an historic storm" with snow accumulations of 18 - 24 inches.

Snowfall and accumulation will be light throughout the day on Friday, with about 1 - 2 inches expected. By evening, as the storm worsens, temperatures will drop and winds will increase. The NWS is predicting up to 18 inches of snowfall overnight. On Saturday, an additional 6 inches could fall before snows cease in the early afternoon.

Thursday, Feb. 7:

9 p.m. - The Pot-Luck Supper scheduled for Saturday Feb. 9 and Hymn Sing scheduled for Feb. 10 at the Acoaxet Chapel have been rescheduled for Feb. 16 and Feb. 17.

4 p.m. - Tiverton Schools will be closed on Friday, Feb. 8. Little Compton, Middletown, and Newport schools are also closed. The Community College of Rhode Island has also cancelled classes. 

2 p.m. - A parking ban will go into effect in Tiverton tomorrow at 8 a.m.

For north Tiverton folks, that means no parking on the side of the street where the fire hydrants are - for those of you outside the city water limits, here's the breakdown:

On streets that run north and south, parking is prohibited along the east curb. For west and east running roads, parking is prohibited along the north curb.

A parking ban is in effect until further notice. Cars parked in violation of the parking ban will be towed and there is a $50 citation which must be paid prior to release of car.

1 p.m. — Keep checking this page for updates about Winter Storm Nemo's progress and how it is affecting Tiverton and Little Compton. Aside from the usual government and town agency posts that will be presented to you, this is where you can find school and business closings as well as downed trees and power lines, power outages and other dangerous situations.
