Bacteria Counts At Oakland Beach Back To Safe Levels: RIDOH

The Rhode Island Department of Health recommended reopening the Oakland Beach swimming area.

WARWICK, RI — The bacteria counts at Oakland Beach have returned to levels that are safe for swimmers, the Rhode Island Department of Health reported.

"The Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) recommends reopening the swimming area at Oakland Beach for swimming because bacteria counts have returned to safe levels," the department said Tuesday in a media release.

RIDOH recommended closing the Oakland Beach swimming area two days prior due to the bacteria counts.

"RIDOH will continue to monitor and review beach water quality through Labor Day," the department said in the release.

"The status of a beach may change as new data become available," according to the release, which said the most timely beach information can be accessed by calling 401-222-2751.

A list of closed beaches can also be accessed on the RIDOH website.
