WARWICK, RI — The bacteria count at Oakland Beach was so high that swimmers and waders should stay out of the water, the Rhode Island Department of Health said Tuesday.

"The Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) recommends closing the swimming area at Oakland Beach in Warwick due to high bacteria counts," the department said in a media release.

"RIDOH will continue to monitor and review beach water quality through Labor Day," the release said. "The status of a beach may change as new data become available."
