Westerly is a place like no other. And whether you grew up here, recently moved to the area or you’re just an occasional visitor, you know that Westerly has its own special traditions and history that make it so unique.

A few things to know:

  • The village of Watch Hill, located within Westerly, is where Taylor Swift has a mansion! The Watch Hill Lighthouse, which was built in 1807, is also located in this charming village.
  • Westerly’s Watch Hill village is also home to the oldest operating beachfront carousel in the United States, the Flying Horse Carousel, which was built in 1867. This historic carousel features hand-carved wooden horses and a brass ring game that riders can play as they go around.
  • Wilcox Park, located in downtown Westerly, is a beautiful and peaceful place to relax and enjoy nature. It was designed by landscape architect Warren H. Manning and opened in 1898. The park features a pond, fountains, walking paths and a variety of trees and plants.
  • The Granite Theatre, located in Westerly's historic downtown district, was originally built as a church in 1843. It later became a community theater and has been hosting plays and other performances since the 1940s.
  • Westerly is home to the historic Babcock-Smith House, a museum that showcases the lives of the Babcock and Smith families, who were prominent in the area during the 18th and 19th centuries. The house was built in 1734 and has been restored to its original condition, with period furniture, artwork and other artifacts on display.
