WESTERLY, RI —RealSimple.com this week named Westerly on its list of 20 great places in the U.S. to see fall foliage.

In a Wednesday article, author Adrienne Jordan compiled a list that included six cities in New England and other locations like: the Monongahela National Forest in West Virginia;Aspen, Colorado; Healdsburg, California and Hatcher Pass in Alaska.

Jordan wrote that while Westerly is a big summer draw, it's a bit of an undiscovered gem for the fall.

"Many may not know that the destination also offers visitors the ultimate juxtaposition of seaside backdrops and changing leaves in the fall season," Jordan wrote. "With nearly empty beaches surrounded by nature and long scenic vistas, this is the ultimate fall road trip."

Jordan recommended staying at the Weekapaug Inn, 25 Spray Rock Rd., and working with the hotel's on-staff Naturalist and Director of Recreation Teddy Beahm for "guided hikes, tide pool walks and prime New England leaf peeping adventures."
