Coach Fortin: Three Vying For Quarterback On EWG Football Team
Players are showcasing their skills during weekly 7-on-7 scrimmages with rival teams.
WEST GREENWICH, RI β Competition and teamwork go hand-in-hand as Exeter-West Greenwich football recruits vie for starter status on the Fall 2021 roster.
It's week four of summer training, and coaches across the league are are taking stock of their talent and getting ready to make some key decisions, said EWG head coach Cliff Fortin.
"Right now, we've got three quarterbacks," said Fortin. "Chris Cardolino is a senior, Max Lafond is a sophomore, and Harris Krupp is a freshman."

Every Thursday evening, teams from around the league have been getting together at EWG for a series of 7-on-7 touch football games. There's no tackling, and it's a lot of fun, but at the end of the summer, the winning team claims a trophy. Teams from Coventry, West Warwick, and Narragansett have been participating and getting the chance to size each other up.
"During these 7-on-7 games, everybody gets a chance to play," said Fortin. "It's good for the players, but it's also good for the coaches. It gives us a chance to evaluate our players. Yes, they are learning to work as a team. But they are also competing with each other."
The team roster will be announced at the end of August or beginning of September.
Younger players who might not make the starting lineup do get a chance to play during the season. Many of those players work hard, advance, and return the next year with a more developed skill set.
"EWG does not cut players," Fortin said. "There's a place for everybody, as long as you play safe."
