Grant will Bring Sphere Sculptures to Woonsocket's River Island Park
The Rhode Island Foundation is giving the city $8,500 for an art installation to enhance the city park.

WOONSOCKET, RI—Woonsocket's River Island Park is getting a new artistic flourish thanks to an $8,500 grant from the Rhode Island Foundation.
The foundation is giving the money to the city to install a series of 10 spherical steel wire sculptures along the edge of the park near the Blackstone River and along walking paths.
Some of the spheres will be surface-mounted. Others will be at eye level "to highlight prominent areas of historical significance within the park."

“The installation of these streetscape structures in River Island Art Park will tap into the creative vision of our extraordinary community -- inspiring those who have big ideas -- and transform this park into an inviting place for activities and events, that will encourage residents to become more engaged with their city,” said Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt.
The grant is part of $500,000 in grants from the Rhode Island Foundation.
