Woonsocket Weekend: Blues, Free Concerts, Golf, Pops for Kids and A little bit Country

The weekend starts off with scattered thunderstorms Friday, clearing up for a seasonal one-two punch of mostly sunny weather with temperatures in the 80s — and there's plenty to do under that sun this weekend:
On Friday, Johnny Rawlins kicks off a three-day run of jazz and blues acts at Chan's at at 267 Main St. Rawlins is followed by Frank Potenza Saturday and Rick Estrin Sunday. Tickets range from $12 to $18 and are available through Chan's calendar page.
- If theater is more your to your liking, you can travel next door to see The Milford Performing Arts Center's latest production of the popular Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Milford Performing Arts Center studio, 150 Main Street, Milford
On Saturday, Michael Smith from ESPN’s Numbers Never Lie is the keynote speaker for The Woonsocket Prevention Coalition's Praise In Prevention Mini-Conference and Concert Saturday, Aug. 10 from 2 to 5:30 p.m. at Villa Nova Middle School, 240 Florence Dr.
The event will feature artists from the Night Light concerts at New Dimension Church in Providence as well as performances from local faith artists in spoken word, rap and song. Ministry leaders, pastors, priests, deacons, youth, parents and everyone in-between are invited to an afternoon of fellowship, food, education and music. Workshops include a presentation on local Woonsocket data for professionals, drug recognition & training for parents and adults, and the Above The Influence Training for athletes and youth.

- For those interested in a little bit country, CumberlandFest features three Country acts Saturday night in the first CountryFest, 6 p.m. at Diamond Hill Park. Nicole Frechette headlines the triple bill along with Marla Morris and Jacy Dawn. They have been touring the country and have several hits between them. Parking is free; admission into the grounds is $5 for adults, $1 for children ages 3-12 and free for less than 3 years old.
- At Stadium Theater, 28 Monument Square, The Ocean State Summer Pops features music such as the Pirates of the Caribbean Theme, the Superman Returns Theme, and of course plenty of John Phillips Sousa. Kids get in free. Tickets for adults range from $11 to $21.
