CFD Remembers Charleston 9
The nine Charleston firefighters killed six years ago fighting the June 18, 2007 Sofa Super Store fire were remembered by the department and family members on Tuesday
Hundreds of firefighters, family and friends gathered to remember the nine firefighters killed in the June 2007 Sofa Super Store fire on the sixth anniversary of the blaze Tuesday.
The memorial this year comes on the heels of a documentary about the Charleston 9 produced by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation that catalogues the changes enacted at the department in the wake of the 2007 tragedy.
The men killed fighting the Sofa Super Store fire are:
- Brandon Thompson
- Bradford "Brad" Baity
- Captain Louis Mulky
- Mark Kelsey
- Captain Mike Benke
- Captain William Hutchinson
- Melvin Champaign
- Michael French
- James "Earl" Drayton
