Charleston County detectives seek information in 2020 James Island homicide (live5news.com) — Charleston County deputies are renewing their call for tips in an unsolved 2020 shooting on Secessionville Road that left 22-year-old Nygel Covington dead and another man wounded. Investigators say evidence was insufficient for arrests and are asking anyone who knows anything to contact Detective Barry Goldstein or email the county’s tip line.

Woody interns gain hands-on experience in range of museum roles (wm.edu) — A William & Mary student spent summer 2025 interning at the Charleston Museum in downtown Charleston gaining hands-on experience with archives, 3D modeling, and exhibit design. The story follows several Woody Internship recipients as they explore museum careers, highlighting how these immersive roles clarify their professional goals and build connections across museums in Virginia, D.C., and Charleston.
   

3. Mayor calls Woodlands Tract sale a win for historic preservation, fiscal recovery (abcnews4.com) — Summerville leaders have approved selling the Woodlands Tract while keeping it zoned as public land, which they say protects a historic hotel area and nearby neighborhood and helps recoup costs from the North Maple Street project. The move, praised by some longtime residents, aims to balance preservation with growth as the new roadway prepares to open early next year.
   

4. Charleston Southern falls at Furman (postandcourier.com) — Charleston Southern’s men’s basketball team saw its three-game win streak snapped in an 84-76 road loss to Furman in Greenville. Despite 26 points from A’lahn Sumler and a big second-half rally, the Buccaneers went cold late and struggled from three-point range compared to their season average.
