Charleston Considers Texting-While-Driving Ban
City, county latest to consider texting-while-driving bans.

Charleston City Council tonight will discuss whether to ban texting while driving in the city.
The Holy City is the latest municipality to consider such a ban. Mount Pleasant's council earlier this month passed such a ban by a 6-3 vote. The measure will be debated again in September before becoming law.
Local governments across the state are considering similar bans. Charleston County Council will discuss the matter on Aug. 22.Â
Local leaders admit that a statewide ban makes the most sense, because city-by-city bans could confuse motorists.
Charleston Mayor Joe Riley has signaled his support for such a ban. The matter will be discussed at a 4 p.m. Wednesday committee meeting.Â
