Charleston leaders, advocates break ground on Lowline park (charlestoncitypaper.com) — Charleston officials have officially broken ground on the Lowcountry Lowline, a two-mile pedestrian and bike corridor that will transform an underused I-26 rail corridor into parks and greenways across the peninsula. Phase One, from Mount Pleasant Street to Line Street, is underway with completion expected in early 2027, backed by city funding and a major private donation honoring local cycling advocate Tom Bradford.

Charleston named top 10 homebuying hot spot for 2026 (live5news.com) — Charleston has been ranked a top 10 homebuying hot spot for 2026, with experts predicting more buyers will qualify as mortgage rates ease. Local realtors say prices may still rise 6–10%, with growing interest in suburbs like Ravenel, Hollywood, and Meggett as inventory and affordability shift across the tri-county area.
   

3. Charleston city leaders adopt safety action plan, meant to reduce traffic-related deaths and serious injuries (counton2.com) — Charleston is advancing a Safe Streets for All Safety Action Plan aimed at sharply reducing traffic deaths and serious injuries on local roads. After a study showing 37,000 crashes in five years, city staff and advocates are targeting site-specific fixes from Johns Island’s rural roads to downtown bike and pedestrian improvements, while pursuing federal funding for implementation.
   

4. City of Charleston approves funding to preserve Dill Sanctuary (counton2.com) — Charleston city leaders have approved up to $3 million in Charleston County Greenbelt funds to permanently protect the 580-acre Dill Sanctuary on James Island. The deal secures a conservation easement, gives the city first rights if the land is ever sold, and ensures ongoing, limited public access to this historically rich and wildlife-packed refuge along the Stono River.
   

5. Charleston City Council officially annexes land on James Island (abcnews4.com) — Charleston City Council has officially annexed three acres on James Island to support a long-planned townhome project, bringing the entire development under city control. The newly annexed land will be used for a stormwater retention pond so the project meets Charleston’s zoning and stormwater standards, consolidating oversight that was previously split with Charleston County.
