Updated: Officer stable after West Ashley incident.

UPDATE (2:30 a.m. Sunday): Charleston Police Chief Greg Mullen says a city police officer was injured late Saturday in a shoot-out with a suspect near Interstate 526 and Savannah Highway, according to WCBD-TV.

Both the officer and a suspect suffered multiple gunshots, but both are recovering at the hospital, the Chief said. The incident began as a traffic stop that escalated into a foot chase.

UPDATE (1 a.m. Sunday): The police officer injured late Saturday in West Ashley in a shooting incident is reportedly in stable condition at the hospital and is able to speak with his family and colleagues, according to Charleston Police spokesman Charles Francis.
