Every town has its traditions. Check out these fun facts about what makes Charleston so special.

Charleston is a place like no other. And whether you grew up here, recently moved to the area or youβre just an occasional visitor, you know that Charleston has its own special traditions and history that make it so unique.
A few things to know:
- Did you know that the birthplace of the world-famous Golden Delicious apple is just a short drive from Charleston? The first tree was found in 1905 in nearby Clay County, and it is now the official state fruit of West Virginia. You can taste this delicious apple and other local produce at the Capitol Market, which has been a hub for fresh food and artisan crafts in Charleston for over 100 years.
- Charleston is home to the West Virginia State Museum, which showcases the rich history and culture of the state. It features exhibits on local history, including recreations of pivotal events and plenty of photographs and documents to explore.
- The city is also home to the Haddad Riverfront Park, which is a popular spot for outdoor concerts, festivals and events. It has a stunning view of the Kanawha River and the city skyline, and is a great place to relax and enjoy the scenery.
- Charleston is home to the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra, which has been entertaining audiences since 1939. You can catch a concert at the beautiful Clay Center for the Arts and Sciences, which is also home to a planetarium and art museum.
- If you're a fan of classic cars, you'll love the CARS (Capital City Auto Show) event held annually in Charleston. It features vintage cars, trucks and motorcycles, as well as live music and food vendors.
