How to Grow a Beard or Moustache for No-Shave November or Movember

Tis the season for the manliest holidays all year.

Feeling burly, all you South Carolina manly men? Maybe you're just really into Duck-Dynasty chic? It's that time of year: No-Shave November and Movember.

And if you thought that two holidays during the same month that both involved not shaving were related, you are wrong.

Movember "Mo Bros" go to this website, sign a pledge, agree to grow a moustache and to get sponsors to donate money to prostate and testicular cancer research (think the guy version of all that pink we saw in October).

Last year, more than 854,000 participated in Movember and raised a whopping $126.3 million for cancer research, the website stated.

No-Shave November is mostly just about being manly and drinking alcohol. Their Facebook page has more than 60,000 fans and states that the event celebrates "The art of not shaving during the month of November."

The official No-Shave November website also has a contest going for the manliest beard. If you upload photos to their site, you can win $1,000.

Art of Manliness offers a few tips for proper beard and moustache-growing:

  • First, pick a style. Do you want the Clooney or the Galifianakis? And if you're in between on that decision, always go for the Clooney.
  • Second, get over the initial itchy phase.
  • Third, find out how to keep it looking good and not Mountain Manish, unless that's the look you're going for.
  • All About Beards also suggests that you invest in a good beard trimmer to keep things looking nice, and that daily shampooing will get rid of the itchiness.
