Hurricane Season Preparation Tips

Make sure you're ready for hurricane season with some helpful tips from Charleston Hardware

There are about a million things to remember when preparing for hurricane season.

Patch spoke with Mike Metz at Charleston Hardware on Wappoo Road to get some tips on what to put in your hurricane kit and how to prepare your home to ride out the worst Mother Nature can throw at it.

When you're out buying supplies, Metz said don't forget about the following items:

  • Water
  • Food
  • Pet food (if you have pets)
  • Propane and a small burner or grill for preparing cooked food while the power/gas are out
  • Flashlights and batteries
  • Coolers
  • Cash (credit cards and ATMs don't work without electricity)
  • Candles
  • Rope
  • Mosquito/bug repellent
  • Medication (make sure to refill any needed prescriptions before the storm hits in case the pharmacies are closed for any extended period of time)
