Man Charged in Collision with CPD Officer Near 526
The South Carolina Highway Patrol charged a driver with DUI Tuesday night after a collision with a Charleston Police Officer at the foot of I-526 on Sam Rittenberg Blvd.

The driver of a pick-up truck that collided with a Charleston Police Department cruiser at the foot of I-526 on Sam Rittenberg Boulevard was at fault for the wreck according to a South Carolina Highway Patrol statement.
Robert Zimmerman, 65, of North Charleston has been charged with driving under the influence, according to SCHP.
Around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday Zimmerman was heading west on I-526 and ignored the traffic light at the Sam Rittenberg Boulevard off-ramp, according to the SCHP statement. When Zimmeman's truck entered the intersection it was struck by a Charleston Police Department cruiser.

Two CPD officers were in the cruiser when the collision occurred. Both were transported to MUSC for treatment.
