Man Charged in Fatal DUI Wreck

Police have arrested a Hollywood, S.C., man on felony DUI and reckless homicide charges following a Sunday morning crash that killed on person.

Steven A. Petit, 28, was the driver of a vehicle that allegedly lost control, left the roadway, struck a culvert, and overturned on Ashley Gardens Boulevard from Westwind Drive, according to police.

A front seat passenger, later identified by the Charleston County Coroner as Matthew Pieronek, was ejected from the vehicle and died, police said. A backseat passenger was uninjured, police said.

Petit was treated for minor injuries and release from the hospital Sunday. Police immediately placed him under arrest for the DUI and homicide charges.
