- C.E.W. Middle School's south campus had increased police presence from the Charleston Police Department on Thursday after a threatening message was found written in the boy's bathroom. After an investigation on Wednesday, the school district's security team and police found the message was unsubstantiated. Principal Kevin Smith said, "However, to keep our schools thoroughly safe and protected, we will have an increased police presence on campus tomorrow." (WCIV)
- According to a report by the Charleston County Consolidated 911 Center, Charleston County received 45,204 hangup calls last year. The data from 2022 is up 70 percent compared to hangup calls in 2021. Telecommunicators say even if you dial 911 by accident, it's important to stay on the line and tell them everything is OK. (Live 5 News WCSC)
- A man in North Charleston has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for the production of child pornography. Jonathan Reece Scarborough, 36, pleaded guilty and faces 360 months in prison and a lifetime of court-ordered supervision. The indictment stemmed from an investigation into the abuse of a 10-year-old girl in September 2019. (WCBD News 2)
