Charleston's Dill Sanctuary moves closer to permanent protection (live5news.com) — Charleston’s Dill Sanctuary on James Island is moving toward permanent protection through a multi-million-dollar conservation easement backed by Charleston City Council. The Charleston Museum and Lowcountry Land Trust are pursuing Greenbelt and conservation funding to preserve the 700-acre wildlife refuge, historic cemeteries, and Civil War sites, while limiting future development and infrastructure needs along Riverland Drive and the Stono River.
   

2. Charleston's main library to undergo renovations, temporary relocations planned (abcnews4.com) — Charleston’s main public library on Calhoun Street will close for major renovations later this year, with services shifting to temporary locations on Morrison Drive and Camp Road. Expect updated furnishings, a new floor plan, and children’s and teens’ areas consolidated on one floor, while the South Carolina Room and Trident United Way services continue in alternate spaces during the 18-24 month project.
   

3. Charleston schools' improvements in students' growth for mid-year testing review (live5news.com) — Charleston County School District leaders say mid-year iReady and MAP scores show encouraging reading and math growth, but also highlight persistent racial and economic achievement gaps. At a Tuesday board meeting, officials detailed stronger gains in elementary grades, weaker progress in middle school math, and small improvements for students in poverty, multilingual learners, and students with disabilities, urging parents and the wider community to stay engaged.
   

4. Average gas prices in South Carolina remain largely unchanged as price gap grows (wistv.com) — If you’re filling up in Charleston, one of the cheapest spots this weekend was Parker’s on Sam Rittenberg Boulevard at $2.22 a gallon. Statewide, gas prices are holding mostly steady, with South Carolina’s average still well below last month and last year.
   

5. Buddhist monks' Peace dog recovering after ‘quick, successful' surgery in SC (wtoc.com) — A beloved “Peace Dog” traveling with Buddhist monks is recovering at Charleston Veterinary Referral Center after a successful, no-cost leg surgery. The monks say Aloka will slowly resume walking as they continue their peace walk through South Carolina, expressing gratitude for the care he received in Charleston.
