Because a federal law is invloved the U.S. Supreme Court is taking a rare step Tuesday in weighing in on an adoption custody battle

The U.S. Supreme Court is listening to arguments Tuesday in the custody case of baby Veronica.
James Island couple Matt and Melanie Capobianco adopted her about four years ago, but her father, a member of the Cherokee Tribe filed suit for custody of her under the Indian Child Welfare Act, and the South Carolina Supreme Court sided with him last year. The Capobiancos appealed to the Supreme Court.
