
The second named tropical storm of the 2013 Hurricane Season formed off of Mexico's Gulf Coast Wednesday afternoon.
The National Hurricane Center reported at 1:45 p.m. that Barry had crossed the threshold from tropical depression to a tropical cyclone with sustained winds of 40 mph.
The system was located about 75 miles east-northeast of Mexico's Veracruz state and moving west at about 10 mph. A tropical storm warning has been issued for portions of Mexico's southern Gulf Coast. It could make landfall by 7 a.m. Thursday in Veracruz, according to The Weather Channel.Â
