Tropical Storm Barry Forms off Mexican Gulf Coast

The second named tropical storm of the 2013 Hurricane Season formed off of Mexico's Gulf Coast Wednesday afternoon.

The National Hurricane Center reported at 1:45 p.m. that Barry had crossed the threshold from tropical depression to a tropical cyclone with sustained winds of 40 mph.

The system was located about 75 miles east-northeast of Mexico's Veracruz state and moving west at about 10 mph. A tropical storm warning has been issued for portions of Mexico's southern Gulf Coast. It could make landfall by 7 a.m. Thursday in Veracruz, according to The Weather Channel.
