Here are the top stories today in Columbia:

  1. Tuesday's 1.7 magnitude earthquake near Columbia was the 12th earthquake in South Carolina in two weeks. while South Carolina typically averages about 20 earthquakes a year, all of them happening in such succession is unusual. Experts continued to be confused about this phenomenon and are doing further research to prevent anything catastrophic. (22 WJCL)
  2. Longtime Five Points restaurant Mr. Friendly's is asking for help from the community. The popular restaurant, which has been open for 25 years, has been closed due to COVID-19 and may have to close permanently. Owner Ricky Mollohan has reached out and asked others to donate through a link on the restaurant's website. (Charleston Post Courier)
  3. The chances of getting snow in the Midlands have increased, and experts are warning of potential damage. The combination of snow, ice, rain, or all three could begin falling overnight Saturday and continue into Sunday morning, according to the forecast. Experts say there is a risk of downed power lines if enough ice accumulates on trees. (The State)
