342 New School Buses Coming to SC

Of those, 29 are coming to Richland County and 20 are going to Lexington County.

In the largest school bus purchase in four years, 342 buses will be delivered across South Carolina, replacing some of the older models.

A press release from the state superintendent stated that these will go to students with and without disabilities, though The State reports that the older buses exclusively served those students with disabilities.

The new school buses will replace all buses from model years 1984, 1985, 1986, and 1987, as well as some 1988 models.

Funds came from lottery revenue, general fund carryforward revenues and revenue from the sale of scrap metal from old buses.

An additional $34 million has been requested from the 2013-2014 budget.

The State also reports that some of the replaced buses had more than 500,000 miles on them.

Ten will go to Lower Richland County, 19 will go to Richland County and 20 will go to Lexington County.
