A.C. Flora's JROTC Team to Participate in National Symposium

From Richland School District 1

After advancing through two fast-paced rounds of online competition testing their knowledge of leadership principles and Army values, a five-member team from A.C. Flora High School will travel to Washington to participate in a nationally recognized academic and leadership event for JROTC students.

The 2013 Army JROTC Leadership Symposium and Academic Bowl, sponsored by the Army ROTC and conducted by the College Options Foundation, will be held June 21-25 on the campus of George Mason University. The College Options Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to enriching the academic development of high school students and assisting them in their preparation for higher education.

A.C. Flora’s JROTC Leadership Team – Joshua Bowman (team captain), Courtney Giles, Joseph Leone, Alexandria Parmly and Darryl Peoples –earned top scores out of the 1,347 teams from around the world that competed to win a place in the National Leadership Symposium and the all-expenses paid trip to Washington. A.C. Flora’s team is one of only 40 JROTC leadership teams to advance to the championship.

By participating in the JROTC Leadership and Academic Bowl, cadets learn the values of citizenship, academic competition and college opportunity. The competition also creates tremendous opportunities for JROTC cadets by allowing them to demonstrate their leadership and academic abilities.
