Supreme Court Justice Recognized by Women's Group

The South Carolina Commission on Women has selected South Carolina Supreme Court Justice Kaye Hearn as the 2012 recipient of the Woman of Achievement Award. This award recognizes and honors a woman whose work and life has made a significant impact on the quality of life for other women and all citizens of South Carolina.

Justice Hearn will be recognized on October 16, 2012, at 4:00 p.m. in front of the Governor's office at the Statehouse.

Justice Hearn was chosen for her unconditional dedication, persistence and passion for justice in South Carolina. Justice Hearn has served on the South Carolina Supreme Court since 2009 and previously served as the Chief Judge of the South Carolina Court of Appeals.

"There were numerous women deserving of this award, but Justice Hearn stood out through her tireless efforts for fair application of the law here in South Carolina. Moreover, by becoming only the second woman in South Carolina history to sit on the Supreme Court, she inspires citizens across this State to strive to achieve their own goals." says South Carolina Commission on Women Chair Michelle Parsons Kelley. "The South Carolina Woman of Achievement Award gives us an opportunity to honor remarkable women, such as Justice Hearn, whose efforts inspire us all."

The ceremony honoring Justice Hearn is open to the public.
