
Bobbie Rose, who had previously announced her intention to run an Democrat for the 1st Congressional Seat, has withdrawn from the race according to the Executive Director of the South Carolina Democratic Party, Amanda Loveday.
Rose, sought the seat last November, but was handily defeated by Tim Scott.
Some observers of District 1 thought the Democrats could mount a serious challenge for the longtime Republican seat if a woman ran against former Gov. Mark Sanford, the early favorite on the Republican side.

But when Elizabeth Colbert-Busch announced her candidacy, she immediately became the most viable female among the Democrats, if only for her name recognition.
