Brother of Man Suspected in Dragging Death Charged

German Zuniga-Torres is charged with accessory after the fact in connection with the dragging death of 52-year-old Calvin Griffith Smith.

The brother of a man suspected in the fatal hit and run in North Columbia Sunday night has been charged.

German Zuniga-Torres is charged with accessory after the fact in connection with the dragging death of 52-year-old Calvin Griffith Smith, Columbia Police said Wednesday.

German Zuniga-Torres is the brother of 29-year-old wanted suspect Dany Zuniga-Torres who is accused of driving a van that struck and killed Smith during an altercation in the 1000 block of Union Street on June 23.

Smith was dragged more than 1,600 feet by the van, police said.

Police are still searching for Dany Zuniga-Torres who will be charged with hit and run resulting in death.

Police say Dany Zuniga-Torres' last known address was on Center Street in West Columbia and he may also have ties to Florida and Honduras.
