Colbert Busch Releases Platform

Likely Democratic nominee in SC1 lays out policy positions.

Elizabeth Colbert Busch, the likely Democratic nominee in the First Congressional District race, released her platform today.

Colbert Busch lists economic growth and job creation as her "top priority." She also calls the sequestration "mindless."

On education, Colbert Busch says she wants to expand public school choice and that "families should have a variety of options available to meet the educational needs of their children."

When it comes to reducing debt, Colbert says that in the short-run, she does not support new taxes. Though she does "not like it," she would raise the federal debt ceiling. She outlines several items with respect to Medicare that, if addressed, she believes would make an impact on the federal debt.

On health care, Colbert Busch supports portions of Obamacare but says more must be done to rein in rising costs, specifically in negotiating the price of prescription drugs.

Colbert Busch supports a "path to citizenship" for illegal immigrants and is in favor of prioritizing skilled workers.

With respect to older Americans, Colbert Busch is against the privatization of Social Security funds and in favor of "an open discussion of tax and entitlement reform."

Last Colbert Busch addresses the thousands of veterans in SC1. She supports "increasing funding for and access to veterans’ health care and benefits."  

As far as veterans and the workforce, Colbert Busch favors tax credits for businesses that hire unemployed veterans and wounded warriors.

Colbert Busch does not go into detail on environmental or conservation issues other than to say she supports wind energy and "clean-energy economy." She also does not weigh in on issues such as abortion, gay marriage, gun rights, or foreign affairs.
