The city of Columbia kicked off a two-day event aimed at fighting childhood obesity and obesity-related illnesses with a bike ride Tuesday morning.
City youth hopped on their bikes for a 1.5 ride from Finlay Park to the Drew Wellness Center as part of the 2013 Youth Emporium, Inc. Big Ten Bike-A-Thon Tour.
The tour will visit 10 states that have been identified among the top 20 most obese in the country by the Centers for Disease Control, according to a release.
Other events during the two-day event includes a tricked out bike contest, games, cooking demonstrations, fitness sessions and more.
