Common Cause Says House Speaker Should Step Aside During Inquiry

Bobby Harrell is being investigated by SLED for possible ethics violations.

According to a story in the Post and Courier, Common Cause, a government watchdog group, has called for embattled House Speaker Bobby Harrell to temporarily step down while he's being investigated.

Earlier this month, the Attorney General's office announced that SLED is investigating Harrell for possible ethics violations, stemming from accusations by the South Carolina Policy Council (SCPC).

Common Cause has been a longtime critic of Harrell's and when news of his travel reimbursements became public. Common Cause believes Harrell should step aside since the accusations are tied to misuse of office.
