Columbia Police say they suspect foul play in the death of a man whose body was found Thursday morning on the side of a road.

The man whose body was found on the side of a Richland County road died from complications of a gunshot wound, Coroner Gary Watts said Friday.

Samuel S. Clemons, 37, of Columbia, was found around 8 a.m. Thursday on the side of the road of Center Street near McFadden Street, Watts said.

An autopsy conducted Friday morning showed the victim died from complications of a gunshot wound to the upper body, according to the coroner's office.

Columbia Police said Thursday they suspect foul play in the man's death.

A passerby discovered the man's body, police said, and called 911.

The Columbia Police Department continues to investigate.
