Dept of Ed to Offer Charter School Training

Agency will offer technical support.

From the South Carolina Department of Education:

The South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) will conduct a free technical assistance session for individuals or groups interested in applying to open a charter school on January 30, 2013.

The workshop will cover the charter school application and the application process to assist in preparing a quality proposal. Attendees should limit their participation to no more than two representatives per applicant group.

The session will be held at the Department of Agriculture’s Farmers’ Market, located at 117 Ballard Court, Columbia, SC 29172, from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.  Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. Lunch will not be provided during the session.  

Any person or group, including an existing public school or Higher Educational Institution, that forms a nonprofit corporation, may apply to operate a charter school.  The South Carolina Charter Schools Act defines a charter school as a public, nonreligious, non-home-based, nonprofit corporation that forms a school.  Charter schools are open to all children eligible to attend public school.
