
Funding for the Certificate of Need program has been deleted leaving healthcare providers in "limbo" when it comes to expanding services, The State reports.
Healthcare providers must get approval before adding services. However, without the Certificate of Need program, they will no longer have the funding the approval process, The State reports.
Gov. Haley's office released a statement in support of the veto stating that the program does three things, "restricts access, drives down quality and drives up costs."

“This is not a novel idea - 14 other states don't have Certificate of Need programs," Haley stated in a press release. "We have long pushed for the removal of CON, and we appreciate members of the House agreeing with us that it is time to change the statute and permanently rid our state of this political obstacle to quality care.”
